MAYASA

The AZOGUE project consists of the restoration of the Cerco de San Teodoro tip in Almadén.

Project stages and objectives
The exploitation of the Almadén mines over the centuries has produced much waste, furnace slag, cleaning slurry, demolition rubble, etc., which have produced the Cerco de San Teodoro tip.
It has a height of almost 60 m, average slopes of 36° and gradients of up to 65%. Its volume totals nearly 3.5 million tonnes.

Objectives
· The minimisation of the current and future environmental impact of the tip.
· The assured long-term stability of the tip and its integration with the surrounding
   landscape.

Project stages
· Remodelling of the sides and tops.
· Laying of a layer of soil for stabilisation.
· Sealing system.
· System for collecting, circulating and draining water.
· Restoration of the plant layer.
· Control and monitoring for 50 years.
